About Us

The Pilon-Smits Lab conducts research on the process of cleaning up toxins from the enviroment using plants, a process called phytoremediation.

Welcome to the Pilon-Smits Lab!

Our Research

In the lab, we focus on plants that accumulate high levels of metals from the environment called hyperaccumulators. Our research targets the methods and environmental effects that concentrating high levels of the element selenium has on plants, animals, and soils. A deeper understanding of this natural phenomenon will help future researchers clean up the environment more efficiently and effectively.
